Did you know?

Did you know that 500 deaths per year are attributed to suicide or accidental overdose of acetaminophen (Tylenol)?

It's true! This is the number one cause of acute liver failure in the US today. Many people do not pay attention to the prescribed dosage and as a result 50% are unintentional.

Did you know that over 800 drugs (over-the-counter and presrciption) can lead to liver damage?

Many drugs cause mild liver damage and a few account to having severe damage. However, the numbers are increasing of cases of fatal cases due to herbal medicines and dietary supplements.

Did you know that the liver is the one of the only organs in our body that can replace injured tissue with new cells?

For example, an overdose of acetaminophen can destroy half of a person's liver in less than one week and within a month the liver can repair itself completely!

Did you know that chronic liver disease is the 10th leading cause of death in just the United States?

Was the thought running through your head ........ it could be me or someone I know and love? This number is significant in the grand scheme of it all. The frequency of chronic liver disease is due to many factors: chemical properties of a drug, environmental factors, age, sex, underlying diseases, and/or genetic factors.

Did you know that women experience liver disease at lower levels of alcohol consumption than men?

For women: 4 or more units of alcohol daily for at least a year
For men: 6 or more units of alcohol daily for at least a year
